Researcher’s meeting on wonder material Graphene

AMO GmbH and RWTH are hosting the flagship meeting with 150 experts from all over Europe

From December 18 to 20, 2017 AMO GmbH together with RWTH Aachen are holding a meeting on the „Graphene Flagship“ Research project at Forum M, Buchkremer Straße 1-7, 52062 Aachen. More than 150 scientists from 23 European countries are expected. This meeting of the project division „Electronics and Photonics Integration“ focuses on the current state of research as well as future goals.

The „Graphene Flagship“ is funded by the European Commission for a period of 10 years (2013 to 2023) with an overall volume of one billion euros. The European research initiative has the task of bringing researchers together to bring Graphene from the laboratory to industry, politics and society. Graphene is a two dimensional atomic crystal consisting of only one layer of carbon atoms. As the thinnest material in the world it has a wide range of potential uses, such as in micro- and nanoelectronics, in medicine or in energy storage.

The cooperations are structured according to research topics in six different divisions with 20 working groups. A total of 120 partners from industry and research are currently working together, including AMO GmbH and RWTH Aachen University, which have recently founded the joint Aachen Graphene & 2D-Materials Center. RWTH professor and managing director of AMO Max Lemme is active in the „Graphene Flagship“ project together with the RWTH Professors Markus Morgenstern, Renato Negra and Christoph Stampfer. Furthermore, on the part of AMO, Dr. Daniel Neumaier as head of division 3 of the flagship is significantly involved in the project. This is the largest division of the research initiative and deals with electronic and photonic devices made of graphene and related two-dimensional materials. The main areas of research in Aachen are the fabrication and analysis of Graphene layers as well as the realization of electrical and optoelectronic devices, for example in the field of data communication, sensor technology as well as internet of things.
