A visiting professor from Eindhoven at AMO and ELD

21. August 2023

AMO and ELD warmly welcome Prof. Bart Macco, a junior professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), who joined AMO in June 2023 for a one-year sabbatical.

Prof. Bart Macco

Bart Macco has been recently appointed junior professor in the Plasma & Materials Processing (PMP) group at the Eindhoven University of Technology.
As a materials scientist, he has specialized in atomic layer deposition (ALD) of functional nanolayers for semiconductor devices, with a focus on passivation layers and (semi)conductive oxides for photovoltaics.
In his new academic role, Macco aims his line of research at 2D semiconductors, specifically looking at ALD of functional oxides on 2D materials but also ALD of 2D materials themselves.

We asked him why he chose to come to AMO: “I chose Aachen and AMO in order to initiate joint projects on applying ALD nanolayers in 2D materials-based devices and to learn first-hand from the 2D material and device expertise at AMO. I also look forward to meeting all the colleagues in the Aachen Graphene & 2D Materials Center.”

Prof. Max Lemme says: “It is a great pleasure and a great opportunity to have Bart at AMO for a whole year. Using functional oxide-nanolayers grown by ALD is a promising way to further extend the potential of 2D materials. I’m looking forward to working together and to learn from his expertise on ALD processes.”
