Standing Together Against Racism

March 21 has been declared International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in 1966, intending to serve as a global call to action for individuals, organizations, and governments at all levels to actively work toward dismantling racial discrimination, injustice, systemic racism, and hate.

The date was chosen in memory of the tragic events of 1960, when police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire on a peaceful demonstration against apartheid, killing 69 people. While there has been progress over the decades, racism remains a persistent plague all over the world. Even in Germany, many people keep facing discrimination, exclusion, verbal abuse, and even violence because of their background.

On this day, we reaffirm our clear stance against racism and discrimination of any form. Diversity, tolerance, and open-mindedness are at the core of our values. We stand firmly by Article 3 of the German Constitution, which demands that no one shall be favored or disadvantaged based on gender, ancestry, race, language, homeland and origin, faith, religious or political beliefs, or disability.

Racism and discrimination have no place at AMO and ELD – and must have no place in our society as well. We believe it is our duty to keep striving for an inclusive and respectful world for everyone.
