Strengthening International Collaboration: Prof. Mukherjee Begins Research Stay in Aachen

We are delighted to welcome Prof. Shaibal Mukherjee from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore (IIT Indore) to the Chair of Electronic Devices (ELD) at RWTH Aachen University and to AMO GmbH. His stay is supported by a research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and marks the beginning of a promising scientific collaboration. Our joint research interests focus on transition‑metal dichalcogenides, covering topics from simulation and material growth to device fabrication and technological applications. The exchange with Prof. Mukherjee opens new perspectives and strengthens international networking in this dynamic field of research.

During the first days of his stay, we had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Mukherjee in person. Together with our colleague Dr. Gordon Rinke, who provided an in‑depth introduction to the INFRACHIP research project, initial ideas and potential avenues for cooperation were discussed. This inspiring start has already shown how fruitful the scientific dialogue can be and what potential lies ahead in the coming months.

A major milestone in this collaboration will be Prof. Mukherjee’s extended research stay in the summer of 2026. During this visit, we aim to intensify our joint project planning and develop concrete steps for future cooperation. Particular focus will be placed on opportunities within the INFRACHIP framework as well as potential joint funding initiatives by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, and the German Research Foundation (DFG). These initiatives provide excellent conditions for building long‑term research structures and advancing shared scientific goals.
