Kick‑off of the EU Project 2D‑ADDICT in Aachen
The kick‑off meeting of the new EIC Pathfinder project 2D‑ADDICT recently took place in Aachen, where we had the pleasure of welcoming an excellent consortium of leading research and industry partners from across Europe. The participating institutions include the Università di Pisa (coordinator), Technische Universität Wien, imec, EPFL, Politecnico di Milano, the University of Cambridge, Quantavis, and AIXTRON SE.
The project pursues an ambitious mission: to develop ultra‑low‑power, high‑performance electronic devices based on two‑dimensional materials. The goal is to push semiconductor scaling beyond current limits and to enable new chip architectures with significantly higher integration density.
At AMO, 2D‑ADDICT is driven by our Graphene Electronics research group, which contributes its long‑standing expertise in 2D materials and advanced nanoelectronic device technologies.
2D‑ADDICT is among only 31 projects selected from a total of 401 submitted proposals under the EIC Pathfinder Challenges 2024. This EU initiative provides €116 million to support visionary research, with an average of €3.73 million per project. The project is funded through the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
Together with our project partners, we used the kick‑off meeting to align on the scientific priorities and to define the collaborative roadmap for the first phase of the project.
We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to pioneering results that will push the boundaries of future electronics.
