Aachen–Berlin Dialogue: Strengthening Europe’s High‑Tech Landscape
Prof. Max Lemme recently joined a delegation from the Aachen region for discussions in Berlin with members of the German Parliament and representatives of federal ministries. The aim of the exchange was to highlight the strengths of the Aachen–Euregio region in artificial intelligence, microelectronics, photonics and other key technologies, and to explore how these capabilities can contribute to Europe’s technological competitiveness.
The region already offers an excellent foundation. It brings together top‑level research in nanoelectronics, integrated photonics and artificial intelligence with a strongly application‑oriented industry. This ecosystem enables innovation across the entire technological value chain, from advanced materials to system‑level integration, and helps small and medium‑sized enterprises in particular gain access to secure and tailored technological solutions. Initiatives such as the Clusters4Future NeuroSys initiative are working intensively to translate cutting‑edge research into tangible technological impact.
We extend our sincere thanks to Catarina dos Santos‑Wintz and her team for the open and forward‑looking exchange, and to IHK Aachen for the excellent coordination and its role as a unifying force among regional stakeholders.
AMO remains committed to advancing semiconductor process technologies, photonic integration and innovation at the intersection of electronics and artificial intelligence, contributing to a strong and resilient European high‑tech landscape.
