Visit of the IVAM Microtechnology Network at AMO GmbH

25. July 2026

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Tim Merforth from the IVAM Microtechnology Network to AMO GmbH in Aachen. His visit provided an excellent opportunity for an in-depth exchange on current developments in micro and nanotechnology. We especially appreciated his strong interest in our research and development activities, as well as the many insightful questions that led to engaging discussions and valuable new perspectives.

During the visit, Tim Merforth gained insights into the diverse technology fields being advanced at AMO GmbH. In our cleanroom facilities, innovative solutions are being developed in the areas of graphene electronics, nanophotonics, sensor technology, nanostructuring, and perovskite optoelectronics. A key focus of our work is the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications and the active support of technology transfer from research to industry.

Particular attention was given to AMO’s role as a bridge between academic research and industrial implementation. Many promising innovations face significant challenges when moving from the laboratory to market-ready products and applications. Through our work, we help companies and research partners successfully navigate this transition and make emerging technologies accessible for industrial use.

The visit also highlighted the exceptional expertise and innovative strength represented within the IVAM Microtechnology Network. The network brings together leading organizations from the fields of microtechnology, nanotechnology, and photonics, providing a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and technological advancement.

For AMO GmbH, the exchange was especially meaningful in a milestone year: 2025 marked our tenth anniversary as a member of the IVAM Microtechnology Network. We look back on this anniversary with great appreciation and gratitude. Over the past decade, this partnership has created numerous opportunities for professional exchange, collaborative projects, and lasting relationships.

We would like to sincerely thank Tim Merforth for his visit, his curiosity, and the inspiring conversations. We also extend our gratitude to Thorsten Wahlbrink, Max Lemme, and Herbert Kleinjans for the engaging discussions and the opportunity to provide insights into the latest developments in nanotechnology.

We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with the IVAM Microtechnology Network and to many more years of sharing knowledge, fostering innovation, and shaping the future of advanced technologies together.
