New pilot line could accelerate the production of graphene-enabled devices

The EU-funded 2D-EPL project aims to establish a European ecosystem for prototype production of electronics, photonics and sensors based on graphene and related 2D materials. The project will cover the whole value chain, including tool manufacturers, chemical and material supplies, and pilot lines to offer services to companies, research centres and academic institutions. As a 2D material, graphene has extraordinary properties that render it suitable for producing devices of much smaller sizes and of extended functionalities with respect to what can be achieved with current silicon technologies. Integrating 2D materials into semiconductor manufacturing lines is a critical, though notoriously difficult, step for achieving this potential.
