Dr. Assaf Ya’akobovitz visited AMO as part of the GIF Young Scientists Program

Dr. Assaf Ya’akobovitz from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) has been the speaker of the Aachen Graphene-Flagship Seminar on November 6th, 2019.

Ya’akobovitz visited AMO and the Aachen Graphene and 2D Materials Center as part of his grant from the GIF Young Scientists Program. This is a program from the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF), which helps young scientists in Israel and Germany to establish first contacts with potential counterparts in the other country

Ya’akobovitz has on his background a PhD in mechanical engineering from Tel-Aviv University, a post-doc in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, and one in the Department of Materials and Interfaces at the Weizmann Institute of Science. He is now the head of the NEMS/MEMS and Nano-Materials Laboratory at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His research interests include the mechanical properties of 2D materials and the engineering of NEMS devices based on them.

In his seminar, he presented recent results from his group in characterizing the electrostatic and electromechanical behavior of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes and graphene foams.  The abstract of the seminar can be downloaded here.
